Mayweather’s camp forces Pacquiao to get his cup checked before Las Vegas mega-bout

Unbeaten US boxing champion Floyd Mayweather’s camp turned to mind games as they apparently took issue with the size of Manny Pacquiao’s cup before their much-anticipated ‘fight of the century’ bout on Saturday in Las Vegas.

It was alleged that Pacquiao’s cup was too big, which would protect the Filipino boxer from the American’s body blows if it were proven right.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe claimed there was a similar issue when the American fought Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 as the latter’s cup was well over his navel.

Ellerbe said that he contacted the commission, who eventually looked at both fighters’ cups that they would be wearing during the big event, and inspected and approved it in order to avoid such issues, News.com.au reported.

Freddie Roach, the trainer of Pacquiao, remarked that the commissioner marked and signed it to make sure it is the one the Filipino boxer is wearing on the night.

Pacquiao would go head-to-head against Mayweather in the richest fight in history at the MGM Grand Arena in his bid to defeat the undefeated five-weight world champion. (ANI)
