The much anticipated bout between unbeaten US boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and Filipino boxer and politician Manny Pacquiao is sure to be a remarkable fight indeed, with the WBC belt, that the two men would be vying for, worth a whopping one million dollars.
Mayweather and Pacquiao would go neck to neck on May 2 in Las Vegas for their eagerly awaited bout. And it is not just the prize money that speaks of the grandeur of the bout but also the WBC belt, which is at stake.
The World Boxing Council didn’t want just any old championship belt to be handed out to the winner of this bout, so they decided to make two belts -an ‘onyx’ version and an ’emerald’ version- and a fan vote on their website last week determined that the latter of the two would be delivered to the winner, TMZ.com reported.
In a tight voting contest, the emerald belt won with 53 percent of the vote, although both the belts are reportedly worth nearly one million dollars. (ANI)
