Mayor seeks additional funds to develop Hyderaba

Hyderabad, December 20: UPA Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi is learnt to have assured GHMC Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, who met her today in New Delhi, that all possible help would be extended for the overall development of Greater Hyderabad.

Karthika Reddy met Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi today and explained about the activities of the GHMC and sought her suppor t in making Hyderabad a model city by allocating additional funds to the City.

The Mayor also met Union Minister for Urban Development, S Jaipal Reddy and sought additional grant of Rs 1000 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to the GHMC.

She said that the Central Government under JNNURM has accorded sanction for 16 projects under BSUP through the Ministry of HUPA costing Rs 1620.81 crore and 10 projects under UI&G through the Ministry of Urban Development costing Rs 407.09 crore to the GHMC.

The total project cost for the above 26 projects is to a tune of Rs 2027.90 crore.

Out of the 10 UI&G projects, 3 flyovers have already been completed. Out of the 16 BSUP projects, 4 projects were almost completed and out of the 78,746 sanctioned houses, 37107 houses have been completed.

The remaining projects under UI&G and BSUP are in various stages of progress. Hyderabad has been benefited on completion of the 3 flyovers which was mainly due to the funding by GoI under JNNURM funds. To make the City as one of the best Metropolitan City in the country, further developmental projects have to be taken up for which additional grant of Rs 1,000 crore is required under JNNURM, she said.
