Mayor directed BBMP officials to clear all SWDs areas of encroachments

On Monday, Mayor B S Satyanarayana, directed Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officers to take immediate action to make progress in all major storm water drain (SWDs) areas that have been encroached upon.

He give orders to the Palike to take action regarding clearing the major SWDs following a complaint by Jayanagar MLA, B N Vijay Kumar, at a meeting held at the BBMP head office.

Vijay Kumar rued that regardless of several meetings, no action had been taken to clear the encroachments on SWDs.

According to G C Prakash, Deputy Commissioner (Bangalore Urban, a survey has already been conducted to determine the extent of encroachments.

“Apart from clearing the encroachments, the major SWDs should be fenced,” the mayor said.

“The survey has been conducted by the survey, revenue and engineering department officials. We have survey report of 934 lakes and 99 villages. I request the details of encroachment be made available on BBMP website,” he said.

Palike Commissioner M Lakshminarayana directed chief engineer (lakes) to get the report from the deputy commissioner’s office and upload it on the official website of the Palike.

The work on 32 major SWDs would begin from next week, said Chief engineer (SWD).
