After Sunday’s Telangana march on Necklace Road, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up cleaning and beautification works on Tank Bund, Necklace Road and NTR Marg.
Mayor Majid Hussain and GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu inspected Tank Bund and the area behind Buddha Bhavan on Monday. The mayor directed central zone zonal commissioner Ronald Rose to ensure that these areas get cleaned up on a war footing. Water stagnation from Buddha Bhavan to NTR Marg was also a matter of concern shown by the mayor.
The mayor and the commissioner asked engineering officials to complete footpath work, including painting on either side of Tank Bund till Hotel Marriott before October 5.
Majid Hussain interacted with a contractor, who was taking up dredging and cleaning work in Tank Bund, and directed him to complete the cleaning work within three days. Krishna Babu said he would request the HMDA commissioner to complete the dredging work at the earliest.
Meanwhile, GHMC has completed the work of cleaning litter on Tank Bund and Necklace Road. Nearly 1,000 metric tonnes of garbage were lifted till Monday afternoon. Normally, the corporation lifts around 3,300 metric tons across the city everyday. As many as 50 vehicles and 31 sweeping machines were pressed into service on all Ganesha procession routes.
