New Delhi, August 11: With the national capital facing an acute power-shortage, Mayor Kanwar Sain today asked Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to pull up the discoms and ensure they draw extra power from the national grid or any other source in order to meet the power demand of the city.
“There is shortage of power in almost all areas of Delhi and despite the anguish of people and constant cries for intervention, the situation still remains grim,” Sain said in a letter to the chief minister.
But despite tall claims of availability of power or withdrawal of extra power as required during peak hours, he said, “the ground reality is that people across the city are reeling under power crisis and power cuts range from one hour to 12 hours or even more.”
Sain said that power distribution was no longer with Government of Delhi and it was the duty of private “discoms” to procure extra power as and when needed and supply it to the city whenever demand increases.
“But unfortunately, despite their claims, their efforts are not translating into relief for the people of Delhi.”
He said that as the Chief Minister of Delhi, she was duty bound to ensure that people do not face any difficulty.
