Mayawati pays surprise visit to Jhansi; transfers DM

Lucknow, February 16: District Magistrate of Jhansi Raj Shekhar was today transferred by the Uttar Pradesh government hours after Chief Minister Mayawati’s surprise visit to the district.

Raj Shekhar has been shifted to administrative reforms department as the special secretary to be replaced by special secretary medical and health Manish Chauhan, an official spokesman said here.

Though no reason was cited behind the transfer, sources said the DM was transfered for laxity in development works.

Mayawati conducted a surprise visit of Jhansi district and took stock of various development schemes, besides law and order.

During her visit, two women abruptly came in front of her cavalcade to narrate their grievances to the chief minister.

In Ambedkar village Bhatpura, a woman named Rajni stood in front of her cavalcade demanding arrest of her uncle’s assailants.

The CM assured the woman of financial assistance and a house apart from justice for her uncle.
