Lucknow, June 19: The BSP and the Haryana Janhit Congress Party have forged an alliance to fight the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana.
BSP chief Mayawati said the seat-sharing arrangement with former Haryana CM Bhajan Lal’s party has also been finalised. The BSP would contest 40 seats and the remaining 50 by the new ally, she said in the presence of Bhajan Lal and his son and HJCP president Kuldeep Bishnoi.
Mayawati said Bishnoi would be projected as the CM candidate while the BSP would get the post of Deputy CM. Mayawati said the two parties would also fight the next Lok Sabha elections in Haryana together.
Sources in the BSP said the HJCP had tried to enter an alliance with it before the last Lok Sabha elections. “But Mayawati was determined to fight all the seats across the nation on her own,” a source in the BSP said. “The BSP’s vote share increased by more than 10 per cent in Haryana, but it could not win a single seat,”the source added. Although the BSP failed to win any seat in Haryana, the party’s performance in several parliamentary constituencies was good.
