Mauritius Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth has undergone surgeries for glaucoma and cataract at a private hospital here.
Anerood Jugnauth, 84, underwent surgeries for cataract removal and glaucoma at the Maxivision Eye Hospital here on February 21 and February 23.
“The Prime Minister had both angle closure glaucoma and cataracts in both eyes which made the operation difficult,” said Kasu Prasad Reddy, Chief Surgeon and Co-Chairman at Maxivision Eye Hospitals, who performed the surgeries.
“As I was responsible for primary prototype research work with Victus Femtosecond Laser assisted cataract surgery, I had to combine four different technologies using Bhattacharjee pupil ring with successful outcome in both the eyes,” he said.
“Glaucoma was in advanced stage in the PM’s right eye while in the left eye it was normal,” Reddy told reporters, adding that it was a day-care surgery and he was in hospital for about two hours.
Reddy said Jugnauth received the medical treatment in India due the nation’s good reputation in terms of specialists, medical products and surgical procedures.
