Maulana Azad Day Celebrated at MANUU

Hyderabad, November 12: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a towering personality of Indian freedom struggle. His Ideals & thoughts for which he stood up as a statesman & a great scholar are very much relevant in today’s world. Glowing tributes were paid to the first Education Minister of Independent India on his 123rd Birth Anniversary at Maulana Azad National Urdu University Hyderabad.

11th November is also celebrated as National Education Day. Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Vice-Chancellor unveiled a life size portrait of Maulana Azad on this occasion. Later addressing the inaugural session of 4-day event as Chief Guest, Former Union Minister Mr. P. Shiv Shankar lamented the fact that Maulana has not been given his due recognition. “We have done injustice with Maulana” he remarked. He compared Maulana’s stature with Mahatma Gandhi.

Prof. S.A. Wahab, Directorate of Distance Education, delivered Azad Day Lecture on “Maulana Azad a Great Scholar”. Earlier, Prof. Khalid Saeed welcomed the gathering & Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin briefed the gathering about the 4-day events. Prof. H. Khatija Begum proposed vote of thanks.

Mr. Abid Abdul Wasay, P.R.O. conducted the proceedings. As part of 4-day celebrations Dept. of Arabic will organize a seminar on “Maulana Azad Bahaisiat Arabi Alim” (Maulana Azad as Arabic Scholar) at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Library Auditorium, “Ten Years of Urdu Television in India”, seminar will be organized by Dept. of MCJ at CPDUMT Auditorium at 10:30 a.m., Seminar of Dept. of Translation on “Urdu Terminology: New Horizons” at 2:30 p.m., Seminar of Dept. of Education & Training on “Challenges of Education in 21st Century” at CPDUMT Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. and a play “Mirza Ghalib ki Haveli” BY (IDEA Group, Mumbai) at Open Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.
