Maulana Abdul Qavi arrested in Delhi

(Siasat News) Noted Islamic scholar, Maulana Mohammed Abdul Qavi, Director of Jamia Ashraf-ul-Uloom of Hyderabad was arrested at New Delhi Airport. He was proceeding to Darul Uloom Deoband to attend a meeting. On his arrival at the Delhi airport from Hyderabad, few persons surrounded him and by introducing themselves as the Law Implementing Agencies took out his boarding pass, baggage and cell phone. Some of the youths who had come to receive Maulana Abdul Qavi were arrested and their cell phones was seized. However, after some time they were allowed to go after noting down their addresses. It is understood that his arrest was made by Gujrat police. He was taken to police station in New Delhi and he was shifted to Gujrat late at night yesterday. Soon after getting the news of the arrest of Maulana Abdul Qavi, General Secretary of Jamiatul Ulema, Maulana Syed Mahmood Madani contacted higher police officials in New Delhi and Ahmedabad. It was reported that Maulana Mahmood Madani has taken a serious note of the arrest of Maulana Abdul Qavi and said that his arrest is illegal. He is proceeding to Ahmedabad. Maulana Abdul Qavi’s elder brother, Maulana Mufti Abdul Ghani Mazahiri, is the President of Jamiatul Ulema of the Hyderabad unit. Maulana Abdul Qavi is one of the great Islamic scholars of India. Devoted all his life in the service of Islam. Maulana Abdul Qavi is non-political and non-controversial person. It is inappropriate on the part of the Govt. to label him as a terrorist.

It is understood that the students of Deeni Madarsa will start a massive protest program. It may be noted that, a few years back Maulana Abdul Qavi’s nephew, Maulana Mohammed Ashraf was arrested by Gujrat police under the charges of Terrorism but later he was exonerated by the court.
