Johannesburg : Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews has expressed his disappointment over his side’s second ODI defeat against New Zealand, saying that a ‘pathetic’ batting display led to their humiliating 10-wicket loss in Christchurch on Monday.
Sri Lanka showcased an inept batting display as the tourists were bundled out for 117 within 27.4 overs. None of their batsmen were able to cross the margin of 20.
Describing Sri Lanka’s defeat as `embarrassing’, the 28-year-old admitted that his side could not manage to handle the game, admitting that they made bad shot selections during the match, Sport24 reported.
Opener Martin Guptill made 93 not out from a mere 30 balls, which includes eight sixes and nine boundaries, as New Zealand wrapped up the match in just 8.2 overs.
With the defeat, Sri Lanka are currently trailing 0-2 in the five-match series. New Zealand won the opening match by seven wickets.
The two sides will play their third ODI at Nelson’s Saxton Oval on New Year’s Eve. (ANI)
