Mass wedding in Gujarat: 130 couples tie knot

Ahmedabad: 130 Muslim couples were married on 2nd Feb 2019 in Ahmedabad under the aegis Gujarat Sarvjanik Welfare Trust with Islamic customs and traditions at Rajpur–Gomtipur area. GSWT’s Chief Afzal Memon said the mass wedding was meant to encourage youth to start families by helping them avoid the high costs of getting married. Dressed in bright red tunics and gorgeous, heavily embroidered scarves covering their hair and part of their faces, and with some Jewellery, the brides looked resplendent. Heavy bangles adorned their wrists and their palms were dotted with intricate henna designs, considered auspicious during marriage ceremonies in Muslims.

The couples were married according to traditional Muslim wedding customs, in the presence of many ulemas from aboard. Many speakers said it helps to combat poverty and reduces the burden on poor families.

The event has been organized to help Muslims from different strata of society. We come together to conduct a wedding for many people,” said, Businessman Mustafa Manikchand. “Through this wedding, we want to convey the message of equality. We help people who cannot afford proper weddings.”

Father of a groom at the function said, “This is a good platform where Muslims get together. In society, we have poor families who cannot afford marriage. So, with functions like these those families get relief and financial help.”

Mufti Mohammedali falahi(UK), Mufti Saleh Dhanchora, MLA Imran khedawala, Shailesh Parmar and other prominent people were at present at this wedding. GPCC president Amit Chavda also greaced the occasion.
