A meeting of Millat-e-Islamia Welfare Society of A.P. was convened in Maheshwaram at the behest of Ms. Sabitha Indira Reddy Home Minister. The meeting was presided over by its president, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Quader. He told that the Society performed more than one hundred mass marriages of destitute Muslim girls in the past because of which it has gained statewide popularity. Mr. Mohammed Farooq Hussain, MLC persuaded Ms. Sabita Indira Reddy that there are many poor Muslims in her constituency and hence their wedding ceremonies should be performed with the financial assistance from the Govt. She accepted this proposal and instructed the workers from her constituency to extend their cooperation in this task.
It was decided in the meeting that these mass marriages would be performed in the month of December.
