New Delhi: On the sixth day of hearing in the Ayodhya case,
the Ram Lalla Virajman counsel claimed that there is enough archaeological
evidence to establish that the mosque was built on temple ruins. Vaidyanathan
told the 5-member bench headed by CJI Gogoi and the others in the bench Justices
S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S A Nazeer that a travelogue
written by William Finch confirms his claim.
When justice s Bobde asked him which country did the traveller William Finch belong? Vaidyanathan could not answer, he said he will check and get back. His co-advocates told that court that William Finch belonged to France. On which justice Bobde said it doesn’t appear from his name that he belonged to France. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind advocate Eijaz Maqbool said William was an English merchant who worked in East India Company. Vaidyanathan agreed to his point.
When senior advocate Vaidyanathan began reading Babar Nama, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind advocate Dr Rajiv Dhavan objected and told the court that some pages of the book are missing hence the court should take note of it.
Advocate of Ram Lalla produced another book in which it was written that Ram temple was demolished by Babur or Aurangzeb but the court did not pay attention to it because the author of the book himself admitted that he was not a witness to the fact but he had come to the conclusion after listening to other people.
Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, another judge on the bench, said, it has not become clear who demolished the temple; whether he was Babur or Aurangzeb.
