Some unknown miscreants demolished a mosque in Rajiv Palem village in Prakasham district using women as shield. On the representation made by the local Muslims and Jameetul Ulema, 12 women and a man was taken into custody.
Local political leaders and S.P. of the District have given assurance for the reconstruction of the Mosque and for taking necessary action against the miscreants.
According to the details, the Muslims had bought a plot of land in 2002. They started worship in 2005 by erecting a thatched roof. A year back, it was given the shape of a mosque. There was a tree in one corner of the land of the mosque which was excluded from the mosque premises. There are only 15 Muslims houses in the village. Last year on 19th September the Hindus had installed an idol of Ganesh and started worship (Pooja). The local Muslims were patient and did not object.
Since there was no boundary wall, the animals were entering into the mosque. The local Muslims requested the office bearers of Jameetul Ulema for fixing the gate of the Mosque. The local Muslims were erecting the gate which was arranged with the financial assistance of Jameeatul Ulema. Some persons belonging to Goud caste started agitation on the worship of the Muslims.
A group led by Ramachandraiah, demolished the Mosque keeping women in the front position as their shield. On the complaint of the local Muslims, Circle Inspector of Police and Tahsildar inspected the spot and cordoned it declaring it as the controversial place and they stopped the Muslims from worshipping. The local Muslims informed that office bearers of Jameeatul Ulema about the partisan attitude of the police inspector and Tahsildar. They also approached the Collector and S.P. of the District.
On receiving the information of demolition of Mosque, Hafiz Peer Shabeer Ahmed President of Jameeatul Ulema and MLC and Hafiz Khaleeq Ahmed Saber contacted Collector and S.P. of the District on telephone and requested them to extend their cooperation in reconstructing the Mosque.
They also instructed the local office bearers of Jameeatul Ulema to guide the local Muslims. They represented the matter the local MLA of YSR Congress Party, Mr. Vasu, Congress MP Mr. Srinivas Reddy, leaders of TDP and other political parties. Local politicians have assured to extend their cooperation in the reconstruction of the Mosque and the restoration of peace in the village and also to provide an opportunity to the Muslims to offer prayers in the Mosque. They also assured that, if need be, they would get the construction done under their supervision.
The collector has also assured the Muslims that action would be taken against those who create hurdles in the reconstruction of the Mosque.
