Martyrdom Day of Bhagat Singh: Haryana to organise wrestling

Chandigarh: Haryana government will organise a national-level wrestling competition in Gurgaon from March 21 to 23 on the occasion of Martyrdom Day of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on March 23.

Bharat Kesri Kushti Dangal will be organised at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon, with cash prizes of Rs one crore, Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, an official spokesman said here today.

It would be for the first time that such a national-level event would be organised in the state, he said, adding that the event would be an annual feature.

The final match of the competition would be held on the martyrdom day falling on March 23 and the wrestler securing first position would be awarded a cash prize of Rs one crore.

First-runner up wrestler would get a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh and the second-runner up would be awarded Rs 25 lakh.

Also, all the participants would get incentive money, he said.

The minimum age of participating wrestlers is 17 years and above, as on January 1, with 80 kg and more weight.

Only those wrestlers could participate in this event who have won medals in any weight category of wrestling in the last three years, the official said.

Winners of first three positions in free-style and Greco-roman wrestling would also be eligible to participate in this event.

He said that those who would participate in this Dangal include Haryana Kesri Wrestler, Hind Kesri Wrestlers recognised by Indian Wrestling Federation, winning wrestlers of State Level Wrestling competitions, winners in National Games and Army Sports Competitions, Services Sports meets, Railway Sports competitions, All India Inter-University Sports Competitions and outstanding winning wrestlers of Indian police sports events.
