Bundelkhan area of Madhya Pradesh consists of Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh and Sagar districts which face shortage of water. Mr. B. K. Pandey, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) while addressing a meeting at Lidhora village on Monday suggested the people to marry 3 wives. One wife is meant to produce children whereas the other two could be engaged to fetch water from distant areas. When he made this suggestion, people asked him whether there are sufficient number of women population in Bundelkhand area since it is known fact sex ratio of women in the district is very low. Mr. Pandey confessed and said that if the number of women in Bundelkhand is less, he blamed Jhansi for gender imbalance.
Nishant Vyas a Activist of Media Foundation, an NGO told that in some place of Bundelkhan area people avoid marrying their daughters due to water crisis they are aware that their daughter will have to walk long distance for water.
