Muzaffarnagar: Body of a 27-year-old married woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Rampur village here with her family suspecting dowry demands led to the incident, police said today.
The victim, Manju, who got married to one Dharmender in 2012, was found hanging from the ceiling of her room yesterday, they said.
Manju’s family in their complaint said that ever since her marriage, she was harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry, police said.
A case has been registered against five persons including victim’s husband Dharmender and her father-in-law Omprakash under Sections 498 A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 304 B (dowry death) of the IPC, they said.
The body has been sent for postmortem and investigation was underway, police said, adding hunt was on to nab the accused.
