Kolkata, October 09: Two early strikes by Brazilian Edmilson Marques ensured full points for city outfit Chirag United, which finished 2-1 against Mumbai F.C. in a I-League soccer encounter here on Friday.
Man of the match Edmilson found the target in the seventh and 14th minutes as Chirag led 2-0 at the halfway mark in the Salt Lake Stadium match. New Zealander Kayne Vincent got the reducer for the visitors from a penalty in the 66th minute.
Earning six points from two games, Chirag now occupy the second position after JCT, which has a better goal difference. Mumbai FC are yet to open their points kitty, having lost both their matches.
Chriag dominated from the outset while the Mumbaikars looked lacklustre.
However, Mumbai FC looked a better side in the second season.
Edmilson drew first blood after being set up by midfielder Jayanta Sen with a delightful through pass. The Brazilian tapped home.
The lead doubled seven minutes later when Mumbai F. C. shotstopper Amit Simngha Roy could not grip an Edmilson shot and the ball went in.
The scoreline became 2-1 in the second session when Chirag stopper Kingshuk Debnath felled rival striker Abhishek Yadav down inside the box and the referee Magho Moirangthem Singh had no hesitation in pointing to the dreaded spot. Vincent converted the easiest of setpieces.
