Mariyam underwent complex surgery

Mariyam Kousar, a victim of alleged medical negligence, submits herself to a complex surgery for removal of water from her brain on Tuesday at Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road in the City.

As said by Dr S Murali, Medical Superintendent of the hospital that the three-year-old child underwent an eventful brain fluid diversion (shunt) surgery.
“The girl is presently stable and needs further monitoring,” he added.

Mariyam, ias a sufferer who was allegedly administered an overdose of anaesthesia at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics, underwent the surgery after a second opinion was taken for the same.

According to the girl’s uncle B S Rafiulla, the surgery took almost three hours. The child was then moved into an intensive care unit. At present, only doctors and the mother are allowed to attend on the child.
