Jakarta: Saina Nehwal’s hopes of securing India’s first-ever gold medal at the World Badminton Championship were crushed after losing the final to defending champion Carolina Marin of Spain in Jakarta on Sunday.
Second seed Saina suffered a 16-21, 19-21 defeat against world number one Marin in the pulsating summit thriller.
Despite Saina leading the second set by 10-5, Marin produced an epic fightback to clinch the prestigious title for a second year in a row.
However, Saina became the first Indian player to bag a silver medal at the World Championship. (ANI)
