Marginal rise in crime rate in Cyberabad limits

A marginal increase by 3.5% has been reported in total number of crime incidents in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits.

Addressing the annual press conference here on Tuesday, Cyberabad Commissioner CV Anand said that as against 27,422 FIRs reported in 2013, this year 27,436 FIRs were issued. They include 12,383 or 44% Bodily Offences; 5,343 or 19% Property Crimes; 3,356 or 12% Road Accidents; 2603 or 9% Special and Local Laws; 2400 or 8% Cheating/White Collar Offences and 2,338 or 8% Crime Against Women.

While cheating and attempt to murder cases have increased by 5% compared to last year, Grievous/Hurt cases have declined by 28%, kidnappings by 17%, Culpable Homicides by 23% and Simple Hurts by 7%. There is no change in the number of rapes cases and they remained static at 138 in both 2013 and 2014. The riots cases have increased from 34 in 2013 to 51 in 2014 registering an increase by 33%.

The Commissioner informed that of Rs 30.66 crore properties lost in different cases, over Rs 22.76 crore worth property has been recovered. While the rate of case detection was 68%, the percentage of recovery was 74 %. This is the highest detection by any unit in the State. Of 5343 property crimes, as many as 3,620 cases were detected.

The snatching cases have decreased by almost 23% cases primarily due to encounter of notorious chain snatcher Shiva and detection of several snatching gangs. While 1017 cases were reported in 2013, this year the figure was 787 and of them, 506 cases were detected.

In 2014, there were 23 Murder for Gain, 15 Dacoities, 60 Robberies, 245 House Burglary by Day and 867 House Burglary by Night, 1,567 Ordinary Theft, 60 Attention Diversion cases and 1,179 incidents of automobile theft.

The overall crimes against women have reduced by almost three per cent. As against 19 Dowry Murders in 2013, there were 10 such cases this year. Similarly, there were 49 Dowry Deaths (43 in 2013), 97 Abetment to Suicide (102), 1,357 Harassment (1,526), 45 Women Murder (38), 87 Kidnapping (117), 503 Outrage of Modesty (350) and 52 cases of Bigamy as against 71 cases reported in 2013.

Anand said that the police have adopted a five-pronged strategy for women safety in IT Corridor which includes All Women Police Stations for IT Corridor and comprehensive strategy for Women Safety in Cyberabad against Eve-Teasing, Stalking etc., He also informed that Snake gang culprits Faisal Dayani and nine other culprits were apprehended for indulging in rape by threatening with live snake and also in land dispute cases.

The Cyber Crimes have registered an increase of 234 per cent. While 109 cases were registered in 2013, this year the figure was 256. As many as 39 Cases of Cyber Crimes against Women were booked. The other cases include Abusive Mails (76), Debit/Credit Card Frauds (26), Hacking (13), Lottery Fraud (19), Online Cheating (31), Online Job Fraud (29), Phishing/Hacking (08), Source Code theft (12), Fake Profile (28) and 14 cases under other Acts.

The Commissioner said that five new softwares have been purchase for effective detection of cyber crimes. They are SOLO-4 – Developing image on hard desk; FTK 4 – Forensic Tool Kit-4; PRTK – Password Recovery Tool Kit; Connect Q – Message recovery and Connecting Cable.

Anand said better enforcement on ORR and Highways have reduced the number of accidents by 14.5% while the number of total deaths in accidents too has decreased by almost 14%.

The Cyberabad Police is planning to implement Integrated e-challan system, Citizen connect App, Social Media Policing, Court Monitoring System and other effective citizen friendly policing measures, he said. (INN)
