Maran may be dropped from Cabinet: sources

New Delhi, June 07: DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran could be dropped from Cabinet in the next reshuffle for his alleged involvement in the 2G scam, according to sources. Dayanidhi Maran is likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi on Tuesday.

Sources also say Maran is likely to be named in the FIR in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

With allegations against Maran being in the 2G scam, a political realignment in the UPA seems imminent. After A Raja and Kanimozhi, Maran is the third DMK leader to be named in the telecom row.

Maran is facing the heat after Aircel founder and original promoter C Sivasankaran on Monday told the CBI that Maran had forced him to sell Aircel to Malaysian telecom communication firm Maxis.

Maran, however rubbished the allegation saying, “Sivasankaran is a multi-billionare, no one can force him to sell stake. I have never forced anyone to do business with me. He could have gone to court.”

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister on Monday said that probe agencies should investigate ministers without fear or favour.

He said, “The matter is being looked into by law enforcement agencies. They should be allowed to work without fear or favour.”

Meanwhile, the CBI director is expected to appear before the panel on Tuesday. He is likely to be questioned on the delayed action in filing a chargesheet against the known perpetrators and how some of them were made witnesses instead of being charged.
