New Delhi, August 17: Suspected Maoists have allegedly demanded extortion amount of Rs 50 lakh from BJP MLA Ashok Singh of Bihar.
The police said the Maoists had called Singh on his cell phone recently and demanded the amount for the protection of his relatives who are executing a road project between Karza and Warsaliganj in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.
The MLA from Paru assembly constituency of the district has lodged a complaint with the police, they said.
SP Sunil Kumar has assured protection to the BJP MLA and his family. The Rs 5.5 crore road project was part of the NHPC power plant in the district, they added.
