Kathmandu, November 16: A top Maoist leader today warned of “another conflict” in Nepal after the end of the decade-long civil war in 2006 if the political parties fail to end the deadlock that has stalled the peace process.
Dr Baburam Bhattarai, the deputy leader of the Unified CPN (Maoist), warned that the country could face “another conflict” if it failed to frame a new constitution as required under the landmark 2006 peace pact that brought the former rebels into mainstream politics.
The Maoists, which has threatened to launch a new phase of agitation from November 19 if the government failed to enforce “civilian supremacy” by holding a parliamentary discussion on the controversial decision of President Ram Baran Yadav to reinstate General Rukmangad Katawal, the Army Chief dismissed by Maoists Prime Minister Prachanda in May.
