Karimnagar, December 04: After a long gap, Maoists made their presence felt by killing three persons in as many incidents, torched an RTC bus, beat up people and kidnapped five persons in Warangal and Karimnagar districts late on Wednesday night.
Two armed women Maoists went to the house of TDP leader Md Majid (39) in Laxmipuram village of Eturunagaram mandal and told him that local MLA Seethakka was calling him.
When he came out of the house, they took him to the outskirts and shot him dead.
In a letter left behind, the Maoists said they were killing Majid as he did not heed their warning not to work as a police informer. In 2007, the Maoists had put up posters branding Majid as a police informer and threatened him with dire consequences, if he did not mend his ways. He is survived by his wife and two children. After killing Majid, the Naxalites torched an RTC bus in the village and proceeded to the nearby Toopakulagudem and kidnapped a fair price shop dealer K Sammaiah and one Chiranjeevi. The whereabouts of the two are still not known.
In another incident in the eastern division of Karimnagar district, former CPI Praja Pratigatana Naxalite Kummari Satyam (35) was shot dead by Maoists at Palimela village in Mahadevpur mandal. According to police, about 20 Maoists went to Satyam’s house around 1 a.m, dragged him out and shot him dead, branding him as a police informer. Satyam, who earlier worked as a legal organiser in Pratighatana group, surrendered to the police in 2006. He is survived by wife and two children.
Maoists also killed a teakwood smuggler Ch Srinivas in Somanur on the Andhra Pradesh-Maharashtra border.
The incident took place two days ago but came to light on Wednesday.
