Maoists kill kin of former Naxal

Karimnagar, January 03: Exactly after a month’s gap, Maoists made their presence felt by killing a youth, Gouthu Lachaiah (25), who is also a relative of former Naxalite, in the eastern division of Karimnagar district. The incident took place in Sarvaipet village in Mahadevpur mandal last night but it came to light on Sunday. According to local reports, about 40-50 Maoists descended on the village on Saturday night. Actually, they wanted to meet Kummari Babu Rao, who earlier worked with Praja Pratighatana group in Bakkanna dalam. On knowing that he was out of the village, Maoists thrashed his relatives to know his whereabouts and left the place.

But after some time, Maoists returned to the village and dragged Gouthu Lachaiah from his house and shot three rounds at him from close range. According to sources, Maoists killed Lachaiah as they suspected that he might inform Babu Rao about thrashing of his relatives. Lachaiah was the brother-in-law of Babu Rao. Police suspect that Dandakaranya organiser Bada Chokka Rao alias Damodar might have led the Maoists in this incident. Sarvaipet is on the border of Maharastra and Chattisgarh and is about 135 kilometres from Karimnagar.

Maoists, it may be recalled, had shot dead Kummari Satyam, a former Praja Pratighatana Naxalite, at Palimela in the same mandal during the beginning of People’s Liberation of Guerrilla Army (PLGA) commemoration month on December 1, 2010. It is learnt police did not dare to reach the place of crime. Villagers brought Lachaiah’s body to Mahadevpur for post mortem.
