Karimnagar,October 13: Maoists shot dead a former CPI-ML (Pratighatana) `group commander’, Nunavath Ramlal (35), at Yatnaram in Adavimutharam mandal last night.
According to police sources, two armed persons went to his house at 9.30 pm on Sunday, took him away from his house on the pretext of talking to him and shot him in the head. The bullet pierced through his head and came out from the back, it is learnt.
The Maoists left behind three letters written in the name of Mahadevpur area `commander’ of CPI (Maoists).
One letter described the victim as a `police informer’ and `enemy of the people’ . The second warned wi ld animal poachers and wood smugglers of dire consequences if they continued their illegal activities, and the third letter wanted the government to come to the rescue of people living in severe drought conditions.
Prior to 2004 Ramlal had worked in the Mahadevpur dalam of the Pratighatana Naxalite group and rose to the rank of `group commander’. In 2006, he surrendered to the police and had been living at Yatnaram village and leading a normal life ever since. He was survived by wife and two children.
Interestingly, police, though informed of the killing, did not dare to visit the place of killing.
Ramlal’s family members, too, did not dare to touch the body.
It was the second killing by Maoists in the recent past. On September 24, Peddapalli area Maoists killed a local Congress leader, Baireddy Sammi Reddy, at Edulapuram in Kalvasrirampur mandal, branding him as a middleman in land deals.
