Maoists force closure of luxurious hotel in Nepal

Kathmandu, April 05: A Maoist-backed trade union forced the closure of a luxurious hotel in tourist hub Pokhara, demanding reinstatement of a security guard sacked by the management.

The ‘Fishtail Lodge’ in the lake city was shut down after the All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF) brought all the services to halt yesterday, forcing the hotel management to shift around 110 tourists, including ten Indians, to other hotels in the city, Tourism Ministry sources said.

Coming under pressure from the trade union backed by Maoists, who are the largest party in the ruling coalition, the workers of the hotel halted all their services, a senior hotel staff said.

The guests had to be shifted to three other hotels as it was not certain when the services will resume in the hotel, he said.
