Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), August 23: A Maoist leader was arrested but 20 others managed to flee during raids at Bishungar in Hazaribagh district, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, CRPF and police launched raids near Konar Dam and nabbed Maoist leader Kauleshwar alias Futani Thakur yesterday, officer-in-charge of the Bishnugarh Police Station, Anil Kumar Singh, said here.
Kauleshwar was among over 20 Maoists who were holding a secret meeting in dense forest of Konar Dam area in Bishnugarh near Bokaro, he said.
Kauleshwar was nabbed when the police chased the ultras, the officer said.
A loaded pistol and three live cartridges and Maoist literature were seized from him, he said.
Later in the day, he was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Hazaribagh and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
