Jhargram, April 03:Raja Sarkhel, a Maoist leader, who was arrested from Kolkata about a couple of months back and is now being tried under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, UAPA Act has approached the Midnapore District Judge and Sessions’ Court here for ensuring adequate safety and security of the Maoists and People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) prisoners housed in the Midnapore Central jail.
Advocate of Raja Sarkhel Mrinal Chowdhury told UNI this morning that his client Raja has appealed to the Fourth Additional District and Sessions’ judge for the safety and security of all such undertrial prisoners as they think that there is a ‘conspiracy’ inside the jail to kill them.
Tension erupted in the Midnapore Central Jail after the unnatural death of a convict in the prisons about a fortnight back.
Several Maoist leaders and People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) undertrial prisoners were injured in an intra-group clash following the incident.
Secretary of Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR), an NGO, Arup Dasgupta also alleged that the Maoists and the PCPA undertrial prisoners have not been allowed to get any first-aid treatment after the clash inside the jail.
We will also approach the higher court in protest against this injustice,” Dasgupta said.
