People and the dealers of fair price shops have surrendered as many as 5.10 lakh bogus ration cards to the Civil Supplies Department for the first time in the state, during the past one-and-a half months. Officials of the department hope that a surrender of an additional 90,000 fake ration cards in the near future.
With the surrender of bogus ration cards the government will save around Rs 24 crore. Presently the government is spending around Rs 250 crore every month for providing essential commodities on subsidized rates.
Civil supplies Department director T Chiranjeevulu said vigilance and enforcement officials would take up a special drive against bogus ration cards and legal action would be taken against holders of fake ration cards.
