MANUU pays tributes to Maulana Azad

Hyderabad, November 16: Maulana Azad National Urdu University has celebrated 122nd birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on a grand level for the first time from 8th to 11th Nov. 2010. Inaugural session was held on 8th Nov.

2010 at DDE Auditorium, MANUU Campus. Member of the Planning Commission and Chancellor of MANUU, Dr. Syeda Saiyidain Hameed paying tribute to the contributions made by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad said “It is ironical that the country neither recognizes Maulana Abul Kalaam Azad’s contributions to the nation nor is it willing to work on the values the great leader had stood for”, Dr. Syeda Hameed said this while inaugurating the 4-day Azad Day celebrations.

“Maulana Azad’s vision on a united nation is a masterpiece that can play major role in addressing many issues arising out of conflicts and violence today”, she said while delivering the inaugural lecture on the life and vision of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Taking the discussion further, Vice Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Prof. Mohammad Miyan, who presided over the function, said, “During his tenure as first Education Minister of India from 1947-58, it was Maulana Azad who designed the education policy of the country and emphasised on the importance of modern and technical education.” The birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad that falls on November 11, has been declared as the National Education Day by the Indian government.

A symposium organized by the Dept. of Urdu on Maulana Azad was held in the afternoon. Dr. Naseemuddin Farees was the coordinator of the symposium. The programme of “Dastangoi” an old art of storytelling in Urdu was held in the evening. Prof. Amina Kishore and Dr. Salma Ahmed Farooqui were the coordinators of the programme. Discussion on “Current Trends in Urdu Journalism” was organized on 9th Nov. 2010 in the morning. Mr. Mustafa Ali Sarwari was the convener of the function. In the afternoon, Hindi Department organized Vicharghosti (Symposium). On the occasion, Prof. T.V. Kattimani’s translation of a book written on Maulana Azad was released. Mr. Rajeshwar Tiwari I.A.S. and Prof. Kuncha Illaiah were among the guests. Essay writing competitions in Urdu were also part of the celebrations. Dr. Abdul Quayum, Head, Dept. of Public Administration was coordinator of the competitions.

Tamseeli Mushairah was organized in the same evening at DDE auditorium, Prof. S.A. Wahab Qaisar co-ordinated the event. Elocution competitions were held next morning at DDE Auditorium.

Prof. Khalid Saeed was the coordinator. Cultural programmes by the students of Model Schools and local Urdu Medium Schools were held in the afternoon at DDE Auditorium. Mr. Mustafa Ali Sarwari, Head, Dept. of MCJ & Dr. Kafil Ahmad, Principal MANUU, Model School, Hyderabad were the coordinators. Sham-e-Ghazal enthralled the audience organized in the evening at DDE Auditorium. Reputed Ghazal singers and musicians were invited in the programme. Mr. Abid Abdul Wasay was the coordinator.

Cultural Programmes by students of MANUU were held in the morning of 11th Nov. 2010 at DDE Auditorium. Prof. Md. Zafaruddin, Proctor, MANUU was the coordinator. Valedictory Programme was held in afternoon. Mr. Jannat Hussain, IAS, Chief Information Commissioner was the Chief Guest and Prof. Mohd. Iqbal Ali, Vice-Chancellor, Satavahana University was the Guest of Honour and delivered Azad Day Lecture. Prof. Mohammad Miyan presided over the programme.
