Hyderabad: It is a matter to ponder upon, for intellectuals, academic and literary personalities of India in general and Hyderabad in particular that why Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is giving Honoris Causa to a person belonging to film industry and associated with dance and music. These views were expressed by Maulana Mufti Mohammed Nadeemuddin Siddiqui, spokesman All India Association of Imams of Masajid.
It must be noted Shahrukh Khan will be awarded honourary doctorate by Maulana Azad National Urdu University during the 6th convocation of the University on December 26. Flaying university authorities, Maulana Nadeemuddin Siddiqui said that the decision taken by Maulana Azad University authorities was ridiculous. There is no dearth of well-known personalities of high-calibre in the field of poetry, fiction, journalism, religious and modern education, ignoring them all and giving doctorate degree to Shahrukh Khan is insult to local artists, he said. Hyderabad holds a remarkable place in the field of journalism and religious education. University authorities should have selected from among the well-known personalities of Hyderabad. There are many qualified personalities in the field of Unani medicine too, besides there are personalities like Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, noted writer Qadeer Zaman and many IAS and IPS officers in Hyderabad. Even if the degree must be given to film personality, it could have been given to Quader Khan, Raza Ali Murad or Saleem Khan as they have served Urdu. Shahrukh Khan’s role in promotion of Urdu is negligible, he said.
