MANUU announces Haroon Khan Shervani Centre for Deccan Studies

In an attempt to honour the great scholar Haroon Khan Sherwani, Maulana Azad National Urdu University has announced establishment of Haroon Khan Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies. The centre will also serve the dual purpose of promoting study of the Deccan besides paying tribute to the great scholar. Professor Haroon Khan Sherwani’s contributions to the study of medieval Deccan are remarkable.

Professor Haroon Khan Sherwani studied from Aligarh Muslim University. He went to England in 1906 at the young age of 15 to complete his schooling at London. He had an exceptional command over Urdu, English, Hindi, Persian and French.

Sherwani was an eminent academician and an excellent historian. D Lit. was conferred on him by the Aligarh Muslim University in 1976. He was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the government of India in recognition for his contributions to the study of Indian history in 1969.
