‘Mann met me and expressed regret over his act’: Kiren Rijiju

New Delhi: Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Bhagwant Mann met him and expressed regret for filming security pickets inside the Parliament.

He added that the MP was not aware of security implications and seriousness of what he has done.

He, however, castigated Mann for his conduct in a manner which is objectionable for the Parliamentarians and the nation.

“It is unfortunate that a responsible Member of Parliament has conducted himself in a manner which is objectionable to the whole members and for the country also,” Rijiju told the media here.

“He met me and he regrets that he is not aware of the implication and seriousness of what he has done but since the matter has been raised in the house so it’s a question of privilege. So from our side we cannot take any action because the matter has come before the house otherwise the Home Ministry can take its call,” he added.

Earlier today, MP Bhagwant Mann tendered an “unconditional apology” to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for uploading a live video of Parliament on Facebook after the leaders of various political parties raised this issue in the House demanding a breach of privilege motion against him.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned thrice in the pre-lunch session over the issue of Parliament security breach. The Rajya Sabha witnessed heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury bench members on whether to hold a discussion in the House.

In the post lunch session also, the scene in the House was no different following which Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien adjourned the House for the day.

Yesterday, the AAP MP had recorded video of the Parliament premises and uploaded the same on social media which is being seen as security breach.(ANI)
