New Delhi: The Congress is all set to hit top gear in poll-bound Punjab as former prime minister Manmohan Singh will release the party’s manifesto for the state on Monday in New Delhi, coupled with parallel releases in Chandigarh and at district level.
On Tuesday, the Congress is expecting the high profile joining of ex-leader of BJP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is likely to contest assembly elections in the state.
The Congress manifesto for Punjab will be released at party headquarters in the presence of top state leaders, including Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh and Rajinder Bhattal, the chairperson of the manifesto drafting panel of Punjab Congress.
Manmohan Singh has reportedly given significant input to the party’s Punjab unit on creating jobs in the state and increasing investment, both domestic and international, according to India Today.
The party may appeal to the youth of Punjab by promising the distribution of 50 lakh smartphones equipped with one-year free data and calling services, reported The Economic Times.
Aiming to fight the drug menace in the state, the manifesto might feature a stringent law to punish those involved in the drug trade. For soldiers, the party has included a 21-point agenda as well.
State unit Vice-President Manpreet Badal, who was chairman of the manifesto drafting committee, will do a simultaneous release of the document in Chandigarh with senior Punjab leaders and Lok Sabha MP Santokh Choudhry doing district-level releases in Patiala, Bathinda and Jalandhar respectively.
Amarinder Singh had earlier met former prime minister Manmohan Singh to seek time for the document release.
