Manipur seeks Rs 500 crore aid for quake relief from Govt.

New Delhi: Following the massive earthquake that left eight dead and over 100 injured in Manipur, the state government sought a financial assistance of Rs 500 crore from the Centre as fund for the rehabilitation of the victims as well as reconstruction of damaged properties.

At least eight persons were killed and over 100 others injured after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the India-Myanmar border on January 7 this year, causing damage to many buildings and spreading panic among the people.

According to reports, Manipur Chief Minister Okaram Ibobi Singh had announced ex-gratia payment of Rs. five lakh each to the family of the deceased. (ANI)
