Manipur: Police take out rally to protest against mob violence

Imphal: A protest rally was taken out by the Manipur Police on Monday to protest incidents of mob violence in the state. The rally was taken out from Moreh to Tengnoupal, along the India-Myanmar border. Around 70 cops led by the Superintendent of Police S Ibombcha Singh along with the 500 volunteers of various civil bodies participated in the rally. The rally aimed at creating awareness about the need for the maintenance of law and order in the society.

The first of its kind rally in the state was the result of the lynching of a 26-year-old man by an irate mob at Tharoijam area of Imphal West district on suspicion of being a vehicle lifter. The mob also set afire a car believed to have been used by “two of his associates”.

The video of the incident went viral on social media. Four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, could be seen in the video while the victim was alive and lying unattended.
