Manipur militant leader arrested

New Delhi, May 10: The commander-in-chief of a banned Manipur based militant outfit has been arrested in Bangalore, police said here Tuesday.

Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) leader Malengba, 36, was caught May 5 after police recieved information about his hideout while following a drug trafficking case, Deputy Commissioner of Police Arun Kampani said.

The KCP was formed April 14, 1980 by Ng. Ibopishak Meitei. It has been demanding secession of Manipur from India by uniting all ethnic Mangoloid groups belonging to the northeast.

Malengba will be kept in police custody here till Friday.
