Manipur Government sets up four relief camps for non-Manipuri labourers

The Government of Manipur has set up at least four relief camps for non-local migrant labourers so that they are taken care off in the wake of a ban imposed on them by the students’ wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS).

These relief camps have been set up as a precautionary measure to prevent the JCILPS from perpetrating any untoward acts on non-locals.

Meanwhile, the state government has convinced the JCILPS to suspend its curfew on non-locals till September 19.

In all, 127 non-locals, including two women and their kids, are presently in these relief camps located at Dharamsala and Thangal Bazar.

They were picked up by the state police from various places of Imphal West District, including Patsoi, Wangoi, Mayang Imphal and Sekmaijing.

A third relief camp has also been set up within the Porompat DIC office complex in Imphal East District.

Around 140 non- Manipuris, including four women, have reportedly been given shelter in a fourth relief camp in the state’s Thoubal District.
