Manik Sarkar and wife live in CPM office after defeat in Tripura

Agartala: After being defeated in the Tripura polls and leaving the Chief Minister’s official residence; Manik Sarkar and his wife are living in CPM party office. Sarkar’s wife Panchali Bhattacharjee, a retired central government employee, owns real estate in the city but landed into some issue after handing it to a builder.

“The party office has the basic minimum amenities. This is nothing exceptional. Most of our leaders lead a simple life,” Tripura CPM secretary Bijan Dhar said. The couple who doesn’t have their own house is now living in a two-room flat and did not prefer to stay at the MLAs hostel, quotes The Times of India.

Sarkar had donated his ancestral property to his sister and had lived in the party office earlier too. CM-designate Biplab Deb said Sarkari entitled to “good government accommodation” and other “protocol amenities”.

“We may have been elected to run the government, but I feel Sarkar and his team have a big role to play in pursuing our dream of a new Tripura. BJP never equates government with the party,” Deb said.
