New Delhi, July 05: Concerned over the threat to son Varun Gandhi’s life, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi on Sunday wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, asking him to provide more security to son Varun.
Her letter comes in the wake of arrest of six sharp shooters of the Chota Shakeel gang, who were in the capital reportedly on a mission to kill Varun
On Saturday, the Delhi Police arrested 6 underworld shooters. It is believed that they had come to the capital to target VIPs and BJP leader Varun Gandhi was suspected to be on their hit-list.
Varun too has issued a statement on this saying that he is not intimidated by such threats. But he has urged the Home Ministry to respond with urgency.
This, however, is not the first time that Varun’s name has figured in the underworld’s hit-list. Sometime back also, it was revealed that the Chhota Shakeel gang is plotting to eliminate him in the wake of hate speeches he made during an election campaign in Pilibhit.
The six arrested sharp shooters are now in seven-day police custody.
Four of the accused had come to Delhi from Mumbai on the instruction of Chhota Shakeel. They were being provided logistical support in Delhi by others members of the Shakeel gang.
The killers had reportedly come to Delhi three days ago and were staying at different places. Police has recovered automatic foreign-made weapons from them.
The plan to kill was to be executed on Sunday.
