New Delhi: Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi today asked north-eastern states to speed-up their child adoption process so that more children can be put for adoption.
Speaking at the Regional Conference of North-Eastern States on child adoption in Shillong, Gandhi said children are the most vulnerable of human beings and their issues need to be looked into with empathy.
“It is due to this reason that the adoption reforms was the first initiative taken up by the Women and Child Development Ministry after the new government took charge,” she said.
The one-day event was organised to familarize the states about the provisions of revised adoption guidelines and orient them about the provisions of the online adoption process through Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System.
Gandhi advised the adoption agencies to bring children with the agency to adoptable stage immediately.
“It must be ensured that the medical reports and home study reports are complete and comprehensive,” Gandhi said.
