Vizianagaram, April 02: TDP Polit Bureau member and MLA P. Ashok Gajapthi Raju has decided to reorganise Vizianagaram mandal-level committee in a couple of days, and strengthen it. The decision was taken on Friday at the mandal-level party meeting in which sarpanches, MPTC members and others participated. The reorganisation is necessitated following resignations of Yedla Ramana Murty, Suvvada Satyanarayana and Kandi Sai Jagga Rao, senior party leaders from the party, recently.
Addressing party cadre, Mr. Ashok, while underlining the need to encourage youth, said that 50 per cent of the posts in the committee would be reserved for weaker sections and 30 per cent for youth below 35 years of age. Reacting to a cadre’s statement, Mr. Ashok said that it was his mistake to depend on Mr. Yedla for convening meetings of mandal-level leaders and cadres during the past two decades. Expressing doubts about their role in party affairs, he wondered whether they prevented cadre from attending party meetings. He said that he favoured democracy and not autocracy in party affairs. The party was founded by late NTR to uphold the self-respect of Telugu people and not for personal gain. Taking a dig at the ruling party, Mr. Ashok said the Congress, which promised big on welfare schemes, had ignored even those eligible during implementation. Referring to census figures, Mr. Ashok said that the district ranked first in the list in liquor sales and stood at the bottom in literacy rate. Now that the government had enhanced power tariff and the municipality too was contemplating increase in property tax, there was need to constitute a vibrant team at mandal-level.
He assured party cadres that he would attend to their problems in future.
