Man Utd ease past minnows Shrewbury to reach FA Cup quarters

London: Manchester United eased pressure on their manager Louis Van Gaal as they swept aside minnows Shrewbury Town 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup at New Meadon.

United, which have not been in good form since the start of the season, displayed a much improved performance and dominated the entire match.

Two quick goals before the break had put the Dutchman-led side in complete control of the game, the Guardian reported.

Defender Chris Smalling struck the first goal for his side in the 36th minute while midfielder Juan Mata’s free-kick doubled the lead in the 45th minute.

United’s Jesse Lingard added third goal for his side in the 61st minute of the match.

United, which are fifth in the Premier League standings, will now meet West Ham in the quarterfinals on March 12. (ANI)
