Theni (TN), January 03: A man, who used the internet to allegedly deceive six women into marriage and later cheated them of cash and jewellery, was arrested here today, police said.
The man was arrested following a complaint from a woman that he had married her in Tirupati recently, claiming he was an MBA graduate and working in the US. She also claimed that she had given him 150 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs 47 lakh as dowry, they said.
The woman said she became suspicious when he left Theni without informing her, following which she filed a complaint with the IG (South Zone) on Nov 26.
A special police team formed to nab the man received information that he was in Kochi and was trying to flee to North India, following which they rushed to that city.
