Man who threw away bitcoins worth $85 mn now trying to retrieve them from landfill site

UK: A British IT worker James Howells who is one of the early investors of cryptocurrency had dumped bitcoins worth $85 million.

According to the report published in Techspot, Howells accumulated bitcoins in 2009 when it was almost worthless.

After he stopped mining, he sold his laptop on eBay as it was broken. However, he did not sell hard drive which contains private keys of bitcoins. He kept it in a drawer at home.

Unluckily, after he forgotten about it, it was mistakenly thrown away into waste bin at his landfill site in mid-2013.

Now when the value of the bitcoin is above $11,500 and the total value of his bitcoins is $85 million, he decided to recover hard drive from landfill taking risk of landfill gases.

Talking on this, he said that it is a big, expensive and risky project.

It may be mentioned that according to a reportĀ from Chainanalysis, nearly 4 million bitcoins could be lost forever as it was mined in the early days when people were not serious.
