Man targets his wives for insurance money

London, May 20: A man in Britain has been convicted of killing his first wife and attempting to kill his second wife allegedly for insurance money.

He was also found guilty of attempting to bigamously marry a third woman and of trying to con her by saying he had leukaemia, the Daily Express reported.

Malcolm Webster, 52, killed Claire Morris, 32, in May 1994, eight months after they wed. During his trial in Glasgow the jury heard how he drugged Claire, crashed their car and set fire to it with her inside.

He squandered the £200,000 insurance payout in six months.

He tried to murder his second wife, Felicity Drumm, in a car crash in New Zealand in 1999 and stood to get more than £750,000 in insurance. The attempt failed and he was tried.
